Guide to taking and sending automatic screenshots to Dropbox

Learn how you can automatically capture screenshots and save the images to your Dropbox account with PagePixels.

Introduction

PagePixels is a screenshot automation tool for capturing online content on a recurring schedule.

With PagePixels Dropbox integration, you can automate the process of taking screenshots and sending the images to Dropbox.

PagePixels is free to start and the Dropbox integration is built-in and available to all plans. No other tools are required.

This guide includes instructions for how to connect Dropbox to PagePixels and how to take and upload scheduled screenshots to your Dropbox account.

How to connect Dropbox to PagePixels

To connect your Dropbox account to PagePixels:

Create a screenshot

Log in to your PagePixels account, and click the "+Create Screenshot" button.

Click connect

Look for the Dropbox integration in the right sidebar, and click the blue Connect button.

Authorize the connection

Log in to Dropbox and click the Allow button.

This will create a new folder in your Dropbox account (Apps > PagePixels) and this is where your screenshots will be saved.

Once you've successfully connected Dropbox to PagePixels, you're ready to configure your screenshots and Dropbox settings.

How to automatically take and send screenshots to Dropbox

To take daily screenshots of a web page and upload the images to Dropbox:

Create a screenshot

Log in to your PagePixels account, and click the "+Create Screenshot" button.

Set your schedule

By default, recurring screenshots are taken every 5 minutes.

For a daily screenshot, use the input and dropdown fields to change the default values to: 1 Days

Add URL

Copy and paste the web page URL you want to screenshot into the Website URL to Capture field.

For example: https://c.xkcd.com/random/comic/

Configure your screenshot

Get your screenshot to look just right with over 20 different setting options in PagePixels.

For example, using the CSS Selector field, you can capture just the comic element on the XKCD page with the following selector: #comic

Configure Dropbox

After you connect your Dropbox account to PagePixels, configure your Dropbox upload.

Dropbox Connection: Select your Dropbox account from the drop-down menu.

Filename Prefix (optional): Add text to the start of every screenshot file name for that configuration. This can be useful for identifying your screenshots in Dropbox.

For example, if we add the text: xkcd-

The screenshot image file name in Dropbox will look like: xkcd-17-Sep-2025_07:46-screenshot-12345678901234-1234567890123.jpg

NOTE: The datetime information in the screenshot file name is in UTC.

Send a Test: You can send a test screenshot to the Dropbox using the "Send a Test" button. For this to work, you need to have already taken a screenshot with that configuration.

Save Screenshot

Click the green Save Screenshot button (top-right).

Once your screenshot is generated, you'll see the image appear in your Dropbox account's Apps > PagePixels directory. For example:

🎉 Your screenshot automation is officially running, and it will automatically take and send screenshots to your Dropbox account on the schedule you set.
