How to automatically search and take screenshots of eBay search results pages

Learn how to use Multi-Step to perform a search and capture screenshots of eBay search results pages on a recurring schedule in PagePixels.

Introduction

With PagePixels Multi-Step Screenshot feature, you can perform a series of user actions on a web page before taking a screenshot, including searching a site such as eBay.

PagePixels is free to start, and this tutorial shows you to create an automation that searches eBay and captures the search results page for a specific query.

Example

How to take screenshots of eBay result pages after performing a search

To search and take recurring screenshots of eBay result pages on a daily schedule:

1

Create a screenshot

Log in to your PagePixels account, and click the +Create Screenshot button.

2

Set your schedule

By default, scheduled screenshots are taken every 5 minutes.

For a daily screenshot, update the fields to: 1 Days

3

Add URL

Copy and paste the link to eBay's homepage into the Website URL to Capture field.

https://www.ebay.com/

Note: When creating a Multi-Step Screenshot automation, the "Website URL to Capture" is the webpage where your first Multi-Step Action occurs (ebay homepage), and not necessarily the page that will be captured (ebay search results page).

4

Add Multi-Step Actions

To search eBay, click +Add Step and add the following Multi-Step Actions.

Wait For Selector

This action waits for the search input field to be available. The input field is identified by the CSS Selector: #gh-ac

This is to help ensure the search input field exists before performing the next action.

Text Field Input

This action adds text to the search input field. For example: 1984 george orwell

Press Enter

This action submits the search form to eBay by emulating pressing enter on the keyboard.

Wait X milliseconds

This action waits for a set amount of milliseconds to allow content to load. For example: 6000

Note: You can increase this time if needed (Max is 15000, unless you have the 5-minute TimeOut Addon). TIP: If the content is lazy-loaded (requires user to scroll page), check the Incremental Scroll option to encourage content to load.

5

Save Screenshot

Click the green Save Screenshot button (top-right).

Your screenshot automation is officially set, and your first eBay screenshot will be taken shortly.
